Roosters
In case you aren't sure what a 'bantam' is, it's pretty much just a miniature chicken. We have two of these; one is a pretty little hen and the other is a rooster whom we call Parsley. He is pretty too, and has beautiful orange and red feathers, and has a funny high-pitched crow, which is probably because he's so small. But he isn't very sweet. As a matter of fact, he is the most likely of all of our chickens to scratch, peck, or chase you away. This is intimidating to the younger kids, and annoying to the owners. You can't get too close to him or the flock or he'll jump up at you and scratch you with the claws of his feet. You can't bring a dog too close either. Jack is afraid of this feisty little rooster, and even the Rottweiler from down the street runs from him, but we expect this to some extent, because there has to be some chicken to chase the predators away.

He's never chased me yet. I must intimidate him! Either that or I don't visit the chickens often enough.
ReplyDeleteHe seems usually to chase people once they turn around, and aren't looking straight at him. Isn't he cowardly? :)
